The Last Monarchs

-

Bahādur Shāh Ẓafar

Like other Mughal Indian emperors, Bahādur Shāh Ẓafar is said to be a direct descendent of Mongol rulers such as Genghis Khan and Timur. With his death, one of the world’s greatest dynasties came to an end.

The emperor was tried for treason, imprisoned and exiled to other territory under British control, in what is now Myanmar (Burma).

He died in custody on 7 November 1862 aged 87 – but his poetry lived on.

Buried in an unmarked grave until discovered in 1991.

What was the reason for overthrowing all these monarchies? Were they oppressive and tyrannical to it’s people or was there another reason? My personal belief is the powers that be hung on to the monarchies that would follow them.

The ones that wouldn’t step in line would be overthrown entirely. Some of these monarchies may have held on to some great knowledge of our past that the controllers simply don’t want out there. You decide..
